This is the first draft of a new song for the Christmas Oratorio. ( My mind is bent on Heavenly Things at the moment. Just as well we are also writing Macbeth, for balance.) As usual, this may just be a poem, or it may be the actual lyrics. I haven’t shown it to Jools yet.
I have a feeling that it might be a bit too subversive. Even, dare I say it, a bit … feminist? Surely not.
Gabriel’s Song
Hail!
Hail to thee
Blessed among women.
You will bear
the Son
of Man;
the Son
of God;
God
Himself.
He who made you,
Who made the glory of heaven and earth,
You
will make him,
Oh, Mother of all creation.
Hail!
Hail to thee
Blessed among women.
