Good Night

Before I go to sleep

I hear that a dear friend, loved, loving,

full of warmth and life and sunshine,

has died.

I wake to restless air,

blown by rattling wind

chilled by snowflakes

dark as night.

And the tiny pool of light

in which we live

feels suddenly

smaller.
